I took these pictures of the herd of wild horses that we sometimes
see out on Pierce Ferry Road, down near Stockton Hill Road and
Gregg's Hideout Road.
Wild Horses
I understand that this particular herd of mustangs is
genetically unchanged from the horses that came over with
Cortez in the 16th century.
It's good to
see them
looking
healthy and
well-fed.
Sometimes
when we have
seen them
they have
looked a little
gaunt, with
ribs showing.
This bunch was heading into the West, late one day in the fall of 2009.
I hadn't seen them for a few months.  They move around depending on
the weather and the availability of water and grazing.
Just think.  None of these have ever been roped, haltered, bridled,
saddled or broken.
They are wild, free and beautiful.
I followed them for awhile as they plodded along the south side of
Gregg's Hideout Road.  They ignored me.
Guess they had somewhere to get to before dark.  I wish them well.
